Students can apply for up to 50,000 CZK to cover the material costs, carry out experiments, or travel expenses covering the Ph.D. student\u2019s trip to a conference. From 1 January 2025, four projects were supported for the following twelve months, i.e., until the end of this year:<\/p>\n<p>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/employee\/automaticky-vytvoreny-koncept-36\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Maty\u00e1\u0161 Jedli\u010dka<\/strong><\/a><strong>: Phycocyanin Biosynthesis Optimization of <em>Galdieria Sulphuraria<\/em> in Various Metabolic Modes<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-17041 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Jedlicka-IGA-2025-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Jedlicka-IGA-2025-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Jedlicka-IGA-2025-766x1024.jpg 766w, https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Jedlicka-IGA-2025-768x1026.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Jedlicka-IGA-2025-165x220.jpg 165w, https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Jedlicka-IGA-2025.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/>M.Sc.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Maty\u00e1\u0161 Jedli\u010dka completed his master&#8217;s in Biology at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, the Netherlands, in 2021-2023.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Since 2024, he has been working at the ICPF in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/department\/agal-and-microbial-biotechnology-research-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Group of Algal and Microbial Biotechnology<\/a> and is in the first year of his doctoral studies in Biotechnology (Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology, UCT Prague) under the supervision of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/employee\/ing-branyikova-irena-ph-d\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ing. Irena Br\u00e1nyikov\u00e1, Ph.D.<\/a><\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The title of his dissertation is <em>Phycocyanin Production in Autotrophic, Heterotrophic, and Mixotrophic Cult<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><em>ivation of Microscopic Algae and Cyanobacteria<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The proposed project aims to determine the covariation of abiotic factors and their influence on the growth of the microalgae of the genus <em>Galdieria<\/em> and its intracellular accumulation of the pigment phycocyanin in phototrophic and heterotrophic growth regimes.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The aim is to determine the relationship between pH, temperature, illumination, and carbon source for the maximum biomass growth rate and phycocyanin biosynthesis.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Emphasis is also placed on the economic balance of the entire cultivation process.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>2. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/employee\/automaticky-vytvoreny-koncept-22\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Eli\u0161ka Mizerov\u00e1<\/strong><\/a><strong>: <span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Synthesis and Study of Properties of Phosphorus Derivatives in Polycyclic Aromatic Systems<\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Ing.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Eli\u0161ka Mizerov\u00e1 completed her master&#8217;s in Drug Synthesis at the Faculty of Chemical Technology, UCT Prague, in 2022-2024.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Since 2022, she has been working at the ICPF in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/department\/department-of-advanced-materials-and-organic-synthesis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Group of Advanced Materials and Organic Synthesis<\/a> and is in the first year of her doctoral studies in Chemistry (Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemical Technology, UCT Prague) under the supervision of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/employee\/ing-cirkva-vladimir-dr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Ing. Vladim\u00edr C\u00edrkva<\/a><\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> and specialist supervisor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/employee\/ing-beranek-tomas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ing. Tom\u00e1\u0161 Ber\u00e1nek, Ph.D.<\/a><\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The title of her dissertation is <em>Aromatic Compounds Containing a Phosphinine Ring<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The proposed project is focused on preparing and studying a polycyclic aromatic system containing various derivatives of the six-membered phosphorus cycle.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Individual phosphorus derivatives will be studied to determine the influence of structural changes on the aromatic system&#8217;s physical and chemical properties. Jind\u0159ich Karban, Ph.D.<\/a><\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The title of his dissertation is <em>Synthesis of Fluorinated Oligosaccharides and Study of Their Interaction with Proteins<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Galectins are \u03b2-galactoside binding proteins involved in several physiological and pathological processes, including metastasis.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Their pharmacological inhibition could significantly reduce these processes.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The proposed project focuses on synthesizing the tetrasaccharide LacNAc-LacNAc and its fluorinated derivatives as selective inhibitors of galectin-3.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The project also includes a study of the effect of fluorination on pharmacokinetic properties, which may contribute to the development of new therapeutics targeting specific galectins.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>4. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/employee\/automaticky-vytvoreny-koncept-35\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jan Morav\u010d\u00edk<\/a>: Process and Reaction Engineering of Oxygen Elimination in 1-Butanol over MgO and Sm<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub> Catalysts<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-17045 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Moravcik-IGA-2025-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Moravcik-IGA-2025-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Moravcik-IGA-2025-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Moravcik-IGA-2025-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Moravcik-IGA-2025-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Moravcik-IGA-2025-165x220.jpg 165w, https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Moravcik-IGA-2025-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 237px) 100vw, 237px\" \/>Ing.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Jan Morav\u010d\u00edk completed his master&#8217;s in Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, UCT Prague, in 2022-2024.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Since 2024, he has been working at the ICPF in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/department\/department-of-catalysis-and-reaction-engineering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Group of Catalysis and Reaction Engineering<\/a> and is in the first year of his doctoral studies in Chemistry and Chemical Technology (Department of Organic technology, Faculty of Chemical Technology, UCT Prague) under the supervision of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/employee\/mgr-kaluza-ludek-ph-d\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mgr. Lud\u011bk Kalu\u017ea, Ph.D.<\/a><\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The title of his dissertation is <em>Catalysts for the Elimination of Heteroatoms in the Refining of Hydrocarbon Raw Materials<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"lRu31\" dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The proposed project aims to remove the oxygen heteroatom from raw materials from waste biomass, especially bioalcohols.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Their dehydration is accompanied by carbon-carbon condensation reactions to form valuable hydrocarbon derivatives with a longer chain.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Their large-scale production under heterogeneous catalysis has not yet been developed.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The project will study newly shaped catalysts from the point of view of transport characteristics, formation, and separation of individual products.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"OvtS8d\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div id=\"ow46\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"UdTY9 WdefRb\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-location=\"2\">\n<div class=\"kO6q6e\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our institute supports independent research of Ph.D. students through the Internal grant agency.
