Jan \u010c\u00ed\u017eek<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"76\" data-end=\"640\">The METRO experiment, designed by scientists from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/department\/agal-and-microbial-biotechnology-research-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Group of Algal and Microbial Biotechnology<\/a> at the ICPF of the CAS, in collaboration with experts from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.cvut.cz\/en-ustavy\/en-sekce-ustav-letadlove-techniky\/en-ustav-letadlove-techniky-12122\/en-ustav-12122\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Aerospace Engineering<\/a> at the Czech Technical University (\u010cVUT), has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic as one of fourteen projects to be carried out during the mission of Czech astronaut Ale\u0161 Svoboda aboard the International Space Station (ISS).\u00a0The goal of the experiment is to investigate, under microgravity (weightlessness) conditions, the behavior of fluids (algal culture medium) and gases (ISS atmosphere), the mass transfer between them, and their influence on the growth of microalgae\u2014particularly the production of oxygen and biomass, and the uptake of carbon dioxide.\u00a0<em>&#8220;During the planned experiment, we aim to collect data that will enable the future design of photobioreactors capable of providing oxygen regeneration and a food source for the crew during long-term space missions. These systems would function in a closed cycle with only energy input required\u2014without the need for continuous resupply, as is currently the case<\/em>,<em>&#8220;<\/em> says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icpf.cas.cz\/en\/employee\/ing-branyikova-irena-ph-d\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ing.
