Modified Waterglass

Abstract:

The aim of the project is to prepare aluminum-based modifiers that will be suitable as an additive for sodium and potassium silicates to produce a mixture that will have strong flame retardant effects on the material. Such modified sodium or potassium silicate will be tested on various materials for its application and retardation efficiency. Another aim of the project is to prepare an expansion material which when mixed with the additive sodium silicate, will form an intumescent coating and apply it to different surfaces and test its retardation properties. The final aim of the project is to prepare additive sodium silicate in the application spray form for the end-user.
