Development Workshop
Service Department
Responsibilities
The Development Workshop is a specialized support unit of the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS, providing custom design, manufacturing, and modification of unique scientific apparatuses, reactors, and laboratory equipment. It works in close collaboration with research groups to bring experimental setups from initial concept to final assembly.
Key Responsibilities and Activities:
- Custom Equipment Manufacturing: Construction and precision machining of prototype devices, chemical reactors, separation columns, and measurement cells tailored to specific research needs.
- Machining and Mechanical Services: Turning, milling, drilling, and grinding of metallic and non-metallic materials (stainless steel, titanium, brass, aluminum, plastics, PTFE, etc.).
- Welding and Joining Technologies: Pressure- and chemical-resistant welding (especially TIG/GTAW for stainless steel), brazing, and specialized joining of technical materials.
- Repairs and Modifications: Maintenance, custom modification, and refurbishment of existing laboratory instruments, apparatuses, and mechanical components.
- Design Consultation: Technical advisory for researchers on structural design and material selection during the development of new experimental setups.
