On Thursday 11th May 2023 at 12:30 pm, the final review of the National Centre of Competence BIOCIRTECH “Biorefining as a Circulating Technology” took place in the large meeting room of the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS.

This project, supported by Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, was carried out by our Catalysis and Reaction Engineering Research Group in collaboration with 8 other academic institutions or universities and 7 companies, sixteen participants in total. NCK BIOCIRTECH covered the issues of biomass processing, namely microbial, plant, animal, but also waste, including sewage or paper sludge, with a focus on obtaining added value reflecting the growing needs of humanity in a situation of its unstoppable growth, in the period of climate change and potential decline of non-renewable energy resources. The aim was to create new products from renewable resources processed with environmentally friendly technologies in accordance with the circular economy, addressing current social issues such as food sustainability, use of natural resources, sustainable energy, etc., and at the same time, thanks to the research potential, to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of Czech companies in the world and to enrich their commercial range; which was successfully accomplished.

The output of the project was represented by 95 different results, which belonged for example to the categories of utility models, functional samples, pilot plants and proven technologies as well as impacted scientific articles.

This project is co-financed with the state support of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic within the program named National Competence Centre.
