Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry

The Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry,  as a service group, provides support to the scientific groups of the Institute in solving research projects. The laboratory is equipped with modern instrumentation for the analysis of inorganic and organic compounds. It mainly deals with the structural characterization, identification, and quantification of organic compounds and their mixtures of both synthetic and natural origin. It is able to design and develop a suitable analytical method for each requirement. For the purposes of analyzing organic substances, it uses the liquid chromatography technique in conjunction with mass detection (HPLC-HRMS) or UV/VIS detection (HPLC-DAD), as well as the gas chromatography technique GC-FID or GC-MS, and NMR spectroscopy. It also enables the determination of metal elements, including heavy metals and rare earth metals, in various types of matrices (MP-AES, ICP-OES), in solution or solid samples after mineralization. In addition to these main activities, it is also able to provide analyses using classical titration methods.

LC Systems

HPLC-HRMS/MS – The liquid chromatography system Dionex Ultimate3000 (ThermoScientific) coupled to a tandem mass spectrometer micrOTOF-Q III (Bruker Daltonik) equipped with a Quadrupole-Time-of-Flight analyzer (Q-TOF). Utilization of both electrospray ionization (ESI) and Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization (APCI) with the direct probe option is possible.

UHPLC-HRMS/MS – Liquid chromatograph Elute+ coupled with Impact II Q-TOF high-resolution spectrometer (Bruker)

HPLC-DAD/ELSD – The liquid chromatography system Dionex Ultimate3000 connected to a Diode Array Detector (DAD) (ThermoScientific) or Evaporative Light Scattering detector (ELSD) (Polymer Laboratories).

HPLC-UV/VIS – Isocratic preparative liquid chromatography system Streamline™ equipped with UV/VIS detector (WATREX).

NMR Spectroscopy

Bruker Avance III HD 400 MHz NMR spectrometer (Bruker) equipped with a 5mm probe with an inner coil for heteronuclear measurements (15N,  19F, and 31P). The responsible and contact person is Ing. Lucie Červenková Šťastná, Ph.D. Stastna@icpf.cas.cz

Varian Unity Inova 500 MHz NMR spectrometer (Varian) equipped with a 5 mm probe with an inner coil for 1H measurements. The responsible and contact person is Ing. Štěpán Horník, Ph.D. hornik@icpf.cas.cz

GC Systems

GC-MS/FID – Gas chromatography system Trace 1310 coupled to ISQ 7000 mass spectrometer (single quadrupole analyzer) or flame ionization detector (FID) (Thermo Scientific).
