Abstract:
The aim of the project is to build a long-term, professional, interdisciplinary, research base consisting of key research organizations with expertise and professional capacity for conducting research in the field of waste and circular management in a broader context. The Center will provide the Ministry of the Environment, other ministries, professional platforms, and other entities with research results, dissemination of scientific knowledge, and expert support in the creation of policies, strategies, and regulations. The center, consisting of a consortium of eight research organizations and universities, focuses on conducting research in thematic areas related to the Czech Republic’s transition from a linear to a circular economic model. This transition requires research in new, as yet unresolved areas, such as raw material flows, innovative technologies aimed at minimizing the use of primary raw materials in production, maximum material recovery and utilization of waste, by-products and intermediates, eco-product design, monitoring, and evaluation environmental but also socio-economic processes. The main thematic areas on which the Center will focus in its activities are waste and circular management, monitoring and development of new monitoring tools to monitor the transition to a circular economy, including the development of new indicators, product life cycle analysis, eco-design, environmental contamination from in terms of technologies, emerging pollutants, the use of new methods and approaches to identify and eliminate pollution, eg through remote sensing. An indispensable topic is also the area of environmental safety, prevention of serious accidents, and related topics of cyber safety and social acceptability of environmentally and technologically conditioned conditions. The Centre’s activities connect scientific, technical, and humanities disciplines in one interdisciplinary platform with the aim of moving the Czech Republic closer to the circular economy.
