Complex evaluation of the application of sewage sludge in agriculture

Abstract:

The aim of the project is to evaluate the suitability of altered sewage sludge (composted, pyrolyzed) application to agricultural soils with the emphasis on so-called micropollutants (or emerging pollutants, i.e., pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors, perfluorinated compounds, microplastics) and “traditional” pollutants (metals, metalloids, PAH, PCB) in relation to soil characteristics. The leachability of pollutants, their uptake by agricultural crops, their effect on soil microbiota, nutrient availability, content/quality of soil organic matter, and water retention in soils after sludge application will be evaluated using laboratory (leaching and pH-stat experiments) and field experiments.
