Integrating plasmonic metal nanoparticles with photonic TiO2 nanosheets for synergistically water splitting and environmental photocatalyst

Abstract:

The photochemical water splitting is one of the most promising strategies to directly convert solar energy to hydrogen. An extensive research is underway to develop advanced nanomaterials for elimination of hazardous pollutants from air, soil and water. Photocatalysts based on plasmonic and photonic coupling effect are reported as a latest and promising trend in the photocatalytic technology. In the present project integrated plasmonic metal nanoparticles with photonic TiO2 nanosheets will be studied. Two parallel synthetic procedures using freeze-drying and laser ablation will be applied. Plasmon photocatalyst thus obtained will be tested for synergistically water splitting and degradation of 4-chlorophenol.
