Measurement – Research Group of Multiphase Reactors

Physical properties of gas-liquid and liquid-liquid interface

  • Measurement of static surface and interfacial tension using Du Noüy ring, Wilhelmy plate methods (Krüss K11), and pendant drop method (Krüss DSA)
  • Measurement of dynamic surface tension as a function of surface age (Krüss BP 100)
  • Measurement of contact angle and surface elasticity (Krüss DSA)

Rheometric experiments of complex multiphase systems

  • Measurement of rheological properties of various liquids, kaolin suspensions, slurries, nanofluids, non-Newtonian liquids, and mixtures (Mars III rheometer)
  • Measurement of flow anomalies in proximity of the wall – apparent wall slip or stagnant layer formation of kaolin suspensions (Mars III rheometer)
  • Measurement of rheological properties of powders using various methods: (i) dynamic methods – stability, flowability, aeration, compaction; (ii) bulk methods – compression, fluid permeability test; (iii) shear methods – shear cell test, wall friction test (FT4 Powder rheometer)

Flow visualization – measurements and evaluation

  • High-speed or high-resolution imaging of bubbly and granular flows (Photron FASTCAM Mini AX200, Photron Fastcam SA1.1, Redlake MotionPro X3, Pulnix TM-4200CL, Lenses and other optical accessories)
  • Time-resolved Particle Image Velocimetry (Dantec Dynamics)
  • Electrodiffusion diagnostic of near-wall flow (method developed in the laboratory)
  • Measurement of local bubble characteristics – bubble size, gas holdup, bubble velocity (Optical probe A2Photonics)
  • Evaluation software:
    • PIVsuite, the computer program for PIV analysis – in-house code
    • DynamicStudio PIV and PTV Software
    • NIS Elements software
    • Bubble tracking – in-house code for bubble tracking, size analysis
