Advanced thin film photocatalysts on a basis of graphitic carbon nitride

Abstract:

The project focuses on the highly innovative synthesis, deposition, and functionalization of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and its use in the field of photo-electrochemistry. Light harvesting, photoinduced reductive, and oxidative efficiencies will be specifically sought. A thin layer of g-C3N4 will be deposited on suitable support by means of material printing and surface patterning. Application-tailored layers of the optimized thickness, hardness, porosity, adhesion, and other necessary physical and chemical properties will be prepared. In this way, catalytic, light harvesting or sensor coatings will be produced with desired morphology, geometry, and surface patterning. Low-temperature plasma nanomodification with -NH2 electron donating groups and other functionalities boosting the photocatalytic H2 evolution of the g-C3N4 films will be of special interest. The functional layers of excellent charge separation, fast light/dark response, stable photocurrent generation, and long-term performance stability are expected to be achieved.
