A Quick Overview of The Bioenergy Futures Laboratory at Cinvestav, Mexico

This presentation introduces the work of the Bioenergy Futures Laboratory of the Advance Research and Studies Centre (Cinvestav) in Mexico. The activities of the lab span thermochemical hydrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass, conceptual design of biorefineries for bioethanol and other bioproducts production, as well as their techno-economic and sustainability analyses. Some of the recent scientific and technology development results will be shown during the presentation. Advances in collaboration with the Research Group of Catalysis and Reaction Engineering of the ICPF will be addressed, consisting of the design of a biorefinery producing bioethanol and CO2 from lignocellulosic biomass. This bioethanol is employed as feedstock for Guerbet coupling to obtain higher alcohols that can be used as automotive biofuels. The impact of these biofuels on the fight against climate change will also be discussed considering the latest data published on global GHG emissions.
