In the latest issue 2/2024 of the popular science magazine of the Czech Academy of Sciences, A / Easy, an article by our colleague Ing. Jiří Sobek, Ph.D., from the Research Group of Waste Management and Sustainable Technologies, was recently published:
“In the future, our money could be protected from counterfeiting by a special antibacterial paper developed with the involvement of scientists from the Czech Academy of Sciences. Its creation was driven by demand from developing countries aiming to prevent the spread of infections through money or tickets. Bacteria can survive on banknotes for years, while the coronavirus lasts for several days. The paper we developed contains a filler with a unique metal complex that can eliminate all coronaviruses, bacteria, and yeasts on its surface within minutes, explains Jiří Sobek from the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS. He cannot reveal more details about the miraculous filler, as banknotes made from this paper are already being produced in some countries, and sharing more could provide clues to potential counterfeiters.”
