The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, and the First Lady visited the National Atmospheric Observatory Košetice. Vladimír Ždímal Presents Aerosol Research on Behalf of ICPF Košetice Observatory, one of the country’s key facilities for monitoring air quality, atmospheric composition, and conducting long-term meteorological measurements.
The observatory is part of the large-scale research infrastructure ACTRIS-CZ, to whose development the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ICPF) has been contributing for many years. ACTRIS-CZ is also a component of the European research infrastructure ACTRIS ERIC, which connects leading facilities dedicated to atmospheric, aerosol, and climate research across Europe.
During the visit, the presidential couple was introduced to the observatory’s activities, the importance of long-term atmospheric monitoring, and the advanced measurement technologies used in air quality and climate change research.
Representing ICPF, Dr. Ing. Vladimír Ždímal, Head of the Aerosol Chemistry and Physics Research Group and Scientific Director of ACTRIS-CZ, presented the institute’s activities in atmospheric aerosol research and the measurements carried out within the ACTRIS-CZ infrastructure. He also highlighted the importance of these observations for improving our understanding of atmospheric processes and their impacts on the environment and human health.
“Long-term and precise measurements of atmospheric aerosols are essential for understanding air quality, climate processes, and their effects on human health. The Košetice Observatory is one of the key research facilities in this field, not only in the Czech Republic but also within the broader European context,” said Vladimír Ždímal.
ICPF is proud to have been part of this important visit and to showcase research that contributes to addressing current environmental challenges and strengthening international scientific cooperation.
