Active Flame Retardant Paint!! Amazing Fireproof Coating

The research team led by Ing. Jiří Sobek, Ph.D. prepared an active paint that retards fire (see video). This fire-resistant coating was created as a result of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic project in 2021-2023 (TREND 3, FW03010674) in cooperation with an industrial partner (Ing. Mgr. Zdeněk Vosátka, Vodní sklo, a.s.).

The aim of the project was to prepare aluminum-based modifiers that are suitable as additives to sodium and potassium silicate so that their application creates a mixture that has strong fire-retardant effects on the material. The sodium or potassium silicate modified in this way was tested on various materials for its application and retarding efficiency. Another aim of the project was to prepare an expansion material that, when mixed with additive sodium silicate, created an intumescent coating that was applied to various surfaces and tested for its retarding capabilities.
