In the current issue of the popularization magazine of the CAS A / Easy 2/2024, a contribution by Ing. Jiří Sobek, Ph.D. from the Research Group on Waste Management and Sustainable Technologies was published:
“In the future, our money could also be protected from counterfeiting by special antibacterial paper, the development of which was carried out by scientists from the CAS. Its creation was due to demand from third world countries that wanted to prevent the spread of infections through money or tickets. Bacteria can survive on banknotes for years, for example, and coronavirus for several days. “The paper we developed contains a filler with a unique metal complex that can destroy all coronaviruses, bacteria and yeasts on its surface within a few minutes,” says Jiří Sobek from the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS. He can’t reveal more about the miraculous filler – in some countries around the world, banknotes are already made from this paper, so it could give a clue to potential counterfeiters.”
