Application of microreactors for studying and optimizing reactions in the production of pharmaceuticals and specialty chemicals

Microreactors are devices with small internal dimensions that provide unique features for the precise control of chemical processes. These features are often employed in continuous processes in the field of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals, where high product quality is required. Despite the high potential of continuous-flow synthesis for process improvement and increased efficiency, batch processes still prevail in industry. This thesis proposal therefore aims at the application, adaptation, and optimization of microreactor technology for the continuous synthesis of fine chemicals and pharmaceutical components.

The candidate should have a strong foundation in chemical and reaction engineering and organic chemistry, as well as an affinity for experimental laboratory work, in order to become familiar with microreactor technology and with data acquisition and evaluation systems. To complete the assigned tasks, personal qualities such as independence, creativity, open-mindedness, and teamwork skills will be required.
